Pond Reflections

A little experiment based on a photo i took in downtown Canmore, Alberta Canada. There is a picturesque pond that you can stroll around and all the lush colors in the shade on one of the pond banks caught my eye. acrylic on 11 X 14 canvas

Peyto Glacier

Nothing like a little trip to the mountains will do for painting inspiration! From a photo I took at Peyto Glacier, along the Icefield Parkway between Banff and Jasper Alberta Canada. So much ice in July!

Life Drawing June 2014

the last of the life drawings for the summer. :o(

i do have a portrait from life class coming up in mid July, but it is not the same thing. back at them in september though ;)

all drawings done on cartridge paper using vine charcoal and/or compressed charcoal. colored ones are done with vine charcoal and conte crayon. times vary from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. you can usually tell the longer ones by how many of the limbs i detailed!

Bugatti Atlantic

I am a car nut at heart but never tried to paint one. had to fix that! ;)

Free Bird

This started as a bad photo of a raven (a silhouette basically) flying around a snowy parking lot ... so added a bit of artistic licence. :o)

Life Drawing April-May 2014

here's a collection of life drawing from my monday night sessions. i have been able to attend a few more lately... woo hoo! i keep forgetting to write down the length of the pose... so i didn't even bother labelling each drawing any more. the poses were between 15 minute and one hour. all of these were done with vine charcoal, charcoal pencil, white pastel and/or compressed charcoal.

Life Drawing Jan-Mar 2014

I have only been going to my usual drawing sessions irregularly, and i took a break to take a course in figure drawing, hence the lack of figure drawing posts lately. here are some of the better ones done in the new year so far. all the poses for the charcoal drawings were between 20 and 30 minutes.

the 'blue' drawings are from the class i took and are probably 5 to 10 minutes. They are just exercises done in class that i thought came out rather interesting. both are about doing a gesture drawing in one color then making corrections in a different color. :o)

View From Sulphur Mountain

I had an opportunity to visit Banff, Alberta Canada over the holidays. It was overcast most of the weekend, so not a great opportunity for photos. Miraculously, the clouds opened up while enroute to the top of Sulphur Mountain in a gondola and this view presented itself! The sun stayed decided to bless us with its presence for the duration of the visit to the summit... definitely the highlight of the weekend! This was painted from a photo I took from the gondola on the descent of the mountain looking westward over the Spray River. Not long after, the clouds rolled back in but memories lingered. :)
