Rocky Mountain Twilight

I don't remember the name of the mountain! I painted this from a photo reference I took while driving the Icefield Parkway between Banff and Jasper, Alberta Canada, and in typical fashion, didn't make any notes. Still, it's been on my to do list of paintings for a while.

A little story about when I took the picture...

The shot was taken from a bridge that crosses the river. I had parked the car at one end of the bridge and walked on, slowly, as I walk with a cane and not the most fleet of foot. While i was lining up shots, I heard a commotion in the bush, then a car horn and tires sliding on the gravel road at the other end of the bridge. A bear had run across the road about 30 meters away from me!

I swear i was using my cane to pole vault back to the car before that very ticked bear knew I was around! No harm came to the driver of the car or bear in this incident, thank goodness! But who says art isn't a dangerous business! :o)

Forest Light

I’m not much of a landscape painter but every once in a while, a reference comes along that captures the imagination. This is from a photo I took on the path to Logan Lake… a small lake just off the Icefield Parkway, a stretch of highway that runs between Banff and Jasper, Alberta, Canada.

By the way, the lake is just beyond the end of the path and is beautiful... maybe a painting for another day! ;o)

Forever Blowing Bubbles

this took a bit of coaxing to get onto paper. i started a drawing on colored paper thinking I'd do one of my conte portraits. absolutely did not like the way it was going, so scrapped it. after i started again on textured charcoal paper and at first, i thought 'oh boy... not my night!' as it moved along though, i kinda liked how the texture shows through, so went a little looser and ended up quite enjoying drawing this one.

Red Rose

I've never been much of a floral person, with the exception of roses. I find them fascinating subjects to draw and paint. Fitting all the petals together, subtle shading and such a variety of color combinations to play with.

jeez… felt good to paint something tonight! i haven’t had much time lately with the web development course i’m in right now. i’ll be done in June and can’t wait till then!

i thought that funky curly thing on the pillar looked a bit like a snake and she’s looking from the light into the shadows. just seemed like Eve and the serpent, hence the title.
